Ray White rallies behind Hanna family

Australasia’s largest real estate group, Ray White, has rallied behind the five Sydney children orphaned after their parents tragically died of cancer within days of each other.

Ray White Fairfield Principal Vince Movizio has become a major supporter of the Hanna family, whose story has touched the hearts of millions of Australians.

The Fairfield West family’s world was devastated on May 16 this year when their father Jamal, 54, died from secondary bone cancer and six days later his wife Shatha, 44, passed away following a battle with breast cancer.

Their children Christina, five, Alex, nine, Andy, 13, Allin, 15, and Nansey, 18, lived in a rented house and faced the prospect of being homeless until an amazing community response to their plight.

A television and community appeal has raised more than $600,000 for the Hannas and they are about to move into a new home they purchased through Mr Movizio.

Mr Movizio sold a four bedroom home at Wakerley in Sydney’s south-west to the family for $465,000 without taking any commission and the Ray White Group is providing free home and contents insurance for the property.

The Hanna family will feature on the Nine Network’s A Current Affair and renovation program Home Made from Monday night in a special feature running for a fortnight as their new home gets a complete makeover.

Mr Movizio and many of his Ray White Fairfield team will be among the labour force helping complete the massive renovation project.

“Once you meet these kids you can’t help but want to get involved,” he said.

The Ray White Fairfield office became aware of the Hanna’s plight well before it received widespread media coverage.

Mr Movizio’s personal assistant Tony Fedele learned that the parents were terminally ill while visiting his ailing grandmother in the same hospital.

“They were in the opposite side of his grandmother’s ward and when he told me the story I thought it was the most horrible thing I had heard in my life that these five kids were going to lose their parents,” Mr Movizio said.

“Unfortunately, Tony’s grandmother also passed away this week.”

Mr Movizio, a father of two, said Christina reminded him of his own daughter Mia and the two girls now played together.

He said he hoped the support the children were receiving would help compensate in some way for their loss and enable them to rebuild their lives.

“They are facing a big, big struggle and if society can help them and give them a chance to do something with their lives that would just be fantastic,” he said

Ray White Joint Chairman Brian White said the company was thrilled to be able to support the Hanna family.

“We are very proud of the incredible efforts Vince and his hard working team have achieved in trying to make life better for these children,” he said.

Donations to the Hannas can be made to the Commonwealth Bank in the account name of Hanna Family Appeal, BSB: 062-000, account number 13470681.
