Bank Service Causing Concerns: Survey

Loan Market Group LogoAlmost 60 per cent of Australians have concerns or doubts about the quality of service from their finance provider, a survey has found.

An online poll conducted by leading mortgage broker Loan Market Group, which includes X Inc Finance, found 38.75 per cent of those surveyed thought their lender did a poor job while 18.75 per cent were “ambivalent” about their financial provider.

However, 42.5 per cent of respondents said they were happy with the service they received.

Those displeased by the performance of their lender cited fees and the overall standard of service as the main reasons for their dissatisfaction.

Loan Market Group Chief Executive Jennifer Nielsen said the survey results had good and bad implications for financial institutions.

“Obviously some people will always complain about fee structures but lending institutions can take heart from the fact more than 40 per cent of respondents to the survey were happy with their performance,” she said.

“At a time when bank bashing has become almost a national sport, this must be encouraging for banks and non-bank lenders.

“However, there seems to be a fine line between keeping the customers happy and agitating them.”

The survey also asked respondents whether they used a mortgage broker, with 43.5 per cent saying they relied on brokers to negotiate their loans.

“That shows how brokers are becoming more in demand because of their confidence and effectiveness in delivering better services for their clients,” Ms Nielsen said.

Of those surveyed, just under a third - 29 per cent - supported an increasing trend by saying they had their loans and deposits with different financial institutions.

The November online survey looks at whether people are happy with the way Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan have responded to the global economic crisis.

What’s new, as the Majors start to dominate the market just watch them increase fees, withdraw services & falling service standards. Brokers & non bank lenders are needed now more than ever to keep the majors honest.
